The purpose of the noise ordinance is to protect the peace and quality of life in Coweta County residential areas by limiting disruptive noise, especially during nighttime hours. The ordinance only applies to unincorporated areas of Coweta County.
Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are daily from10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. During this time, no noise should be heard from inside a home more than 100 feet away or in outdoor areas, like porches or yards, more than 300 feet away.
Definition of "Noise"
"Noise" refers to multiple disruptive sounds, such as but not limited to:
Loud Music, TVs or Speakers
Yelling, Shouting or Arguing
Party Noise
Lawn Equipment (Mowers, Blowers)
Construction Tools
Barking Dogs or Other Animals
Alarms, Horns and Commercial Sounds
Noise Exceptions
Some noises are considered exceptions, such as:
Church Bells
School and Sporting Events
Emergency Vehicles and Alarms (With Time Limits)
Agricultural Activities
Air Conditioning and Pool Filters
Parades, Festivals and Permitted Events
Activities Covered by State or Federal Law
Specific Rules for Activities
Landscaping Tools: Allowed daily from7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Construction/Demolition:
Weekdays: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Weekends: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

If you're planning an event or activity that might exceed normal noise limits, you can apply for a temporary or periodic variance.
Your request will be reviewed by the County Administrator (or designee) will review and may approve with conditions.
Penalties for Noise Violations
Noise ordinance violations may result in penalties under the County's general Code Enforcement rules.
