Notary Commissions are issued through Superior Court. Information about becoming a Notary Public and applicable laws are available through the Georgia Superior Court Clerk's Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA).

Note: Renewal applications must be processed PRIOR TO EXPIRATION of an existing, active Coweta County notary commission.  A commission can be renewed no earlier than 30 days prior to expiration. 

All New and Renewal applicants must include a criminal background check performed by a local law enforcement agency with their application.  This can be performed through the Coweta County Sheriff's Department for $10 cash.  Please call 770-253-1502 for more information.

• A notary public shall maintain a written or electronic journal for each notarial act performed at the request of a self-filer for the real estate documents.
• A notary public applicant is required to complete an educational training class prior to the applicant's initial (new) appointment on the Georgia Superior Court Clerk's Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA). 
• A notary public applicant is required to complete an educational training class prior to the applicant's renewal of a current appointment on the Georgia Superior Court Clerk's Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA). 
• A notary public applicant will be provided a certificate upon successful completion of the training course.

Personal Checks Are Not Accepted.

• You must apply in the county in which you reside.  When applying for a New Notary Commission, the character witnesses must also be residents of Coweta County and must sign the application.

• Please visit the General Notary Forms and Information page on the Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA) website to complete an application.  Completed applications should be brought to this office for processing within 30 days of the online entry.  Applications not processed within 30 days will be deleted from the online system.

• Please bring your valid driver's license.  The address on the application must match the address on your license.  Should the addresses not match, you must provide an official record, such as a voter registration card, showing your name and current address.

• Please remember, a renewal application cannot be processed any sooner than 30 days prior to expiration, nor can the application be processed if the commission has already expired.  Any renewal applications received in this office after the expiration date will be rejected.

• When completing the application packet online with the Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA), please follow all instructions  carefully. Failure to do so could cause your application to be rejected.

• Payment information will be entered during the application process at the Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA) website.  Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA) will not charge your credit card until your application is processed and accepted by the Clerk's Office.  In the event of a card error message during processing, the application will be rejected and mailed to you without processing.  You would then need to complete another application.

• A Renewal Application By Mail that includes a name change cannot be processed unless proof of the name change is provided.
