Jury service is a civic duty, required by law. The goal of the jury staff is to summon qualified jurors made up of a fair cross section of the community to constitute a legal jury for the civil and criminal courts of Coweta County. Jurors will receive compensation for services and expenses at the rate of $50.00 per day as required by law O.C.G.A. § 15-12-7(2) and 34-1-3(A). You will be provided a work excuse for your employer.
Georgia Law requires all persons summoned for jury duty to appear for service, provided that they are 18 years of age or more, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Coweta County. Any person who has been convicted of a felony can serve provided their rights have been restored. If you are in doubt as to whether your rights have been restored, you should contact the Pardons and Parole Office in the state in which you were convicted.
Note: We realize jury service may be an inconvenience for you and your employer. However, employment is NOT a legal excuse from jury duty as per code section O.C.G.A. 34-1-3 (a).
