Sheriff Mike Yeager is proud to introduce the STOPPED program. The STOPPED Program is a parental notification project that was developed by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office (NY). This program is designed to reduce the number of youthful drivers involved in auto accidents.
Drivers age 16-20 account for the highest fatality and injury rates in all motor vehicle crashes. Vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among 16-20 year olds.
How it works
Parents voluntarily register with the Sheriff's Office any motor vehicle that will be operated by a driver under twenty-one years of age.
An identification decal is issued and affixed to the front windshield of each registered vehicle.
What to expect
If a registered vehicle is stopped by the Sheriff's Office, and operated by a driver under twenty-one years of age, the officer will complete a notification card providing the following information: time & location of stop, driver's name & number of passengers, reason for stop, and whether any citations were issued. The card will be mailed directly to parents to make them aware of potential problems.
Let's work together to see that this trend is STOPPED!
