Admission Policy
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s license.
- Must successfully complete an entrance examination and an oral interview.
- Successful completion of a physical fitness test.
- Must be able to complete requirements to do clinical rotations including background checks, drug screening, and a variety of vaccinations.
Admission Priority
- The AEMT Program will not discriminate in its admission policies on the basis of sex, race, national origin, religion or sexual preference. CCFRD Training may offer AEMT courses in two ways.
- The first is through a paid recruit program. In this case, the Chief of Training will make the decision as to which members will progress into the AEMT program.
- If the department chooses to do an EMT to AEMT course for existing members of the department, employees will complete an entrance exam, panel interview, and submit a letter of intent with an officer’s recommendation. A panel will review the entrance exam results, letter of intent details, work history, officer recommendation, and oral interview scores to determine acceptance into the program.
- At this time, only Coweta County Fire Rescue employees will be eligible for entry into the program.
AEMT Job Description
General Definition of Work
- Performs intermediate protective service work responding to emergency medical service calls, performing basic and advanced life support and emergency medical care and maintaining equipment, participating in continuing training, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned officer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of emergency medical techniques and procedures; general knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the County and surrounding area; general knowledge of advanced life support principles and techniques; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare detailed written and/or electronic reports; possession of physical endurance and agility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical personnel, law enforcement personnel, academy recruits, other fire/Ems agencies, associates and the general public.
Essential Functions
- Provides basic and advanced life support services; performs detailed subjective and objective patient assessments within established protocols, stabilization, and treatment; coordinates emergency care procedures with authorized emergency hospital staff.
- Performs and participates in support functions for technical rescues.
- Drives and/or operates various medical vehicles.
- Assists with hazardous materials incidents.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports related to operations, training and professional development; prepares and reviews quality assurance forms.
- Assists in maintaining ambulances and equipment; ensures that emergency vehicles are completely stocked and maintained in a safe and efficient operational condition.
- Presents programs to the community on safety, medical topics.
- Provides transport to and from hospitals or other designated sites as required
- Facilitates the triage system for large scale incidents or mass casualty incidents.
- Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes; assists with training when required.
- Performs ancillary duties such as training and certifications records maintenance, quality control, emergency services management, equipment repairs and specifications development, etc., as needed or required.
- Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Advanced Placement Policy
- CCFRD Training Department does not offer advanced placement into the AEMT program.
Experiential Credit/Articulation Agreement
- CCFRD Training Department does not offer experiential credits.
- CCFRD does not currently have an articulation agreement that allows for degree credits upon completion of the program.
Minimum Contact Hours for Program Completion
Successful completion of the program will include a minimum of the following contact hours:
- Classroom: 170 hours
- Lab: 91 hours
- Clinical/ Field: 144 hours
- Capstone Field Internship: 24 hours
Fees (Student Responsibility)
CCFRD does not charge tuition to current FT employees who are accepted into this program. There are associated fees that are the responsibility of the student:
- Book and Fisdap Access Package: ~ $330.00
- Clinical Uniform Shirt ~ $50.00
- NREMT Exam $175.00 per attempt
- Student Background Check and Drug Screen ~ $80.00
- ACEMAPP Subscription $50.00
- Vaccinations* Varies
Please note: All associated fees are not eligible to be reimbursed by the department.
*Hospital or clinical setting vaccine requirements may include: Hepatitis B, MMR, TDAP, Chickenpox or titer, TB skin test or T Spot, and Flu shot. Exemptions will be at the discretion of the hospital clinical affiliate.

Withdrawal Policy
- To withdraw from the program, the student shall notify the Program Director in writing and advise the reason for discontinuing the program. This information is used to advise the State Office of EMS. No credit for courses shall be credited to a student who withdrawals.
Assignment of clinical, field, and capstone experience
- Students must attend sites with entities that have existing agreements with CCFRD.
- All field internships must be completed at CCFRD.
- All requests for rotations shall be emailed to the Program Director by the 15th of the month prior to the rotation being requested. The program director shall confirm or deny the request by email.
- No clinical, field, or capstone hours shall be completed without prior consent of the Program Director or Clinical Coordinator.
- To cancel a scheduled date, students shall call the Program Director or Clinical Coordinator at least an hour before the shift begins. All reasonable attempts shall be made to keep an assigned date.
- Students shall not be paid for clinical, field, or capstone hours, and shall serve as an additional person on the medic unit.
Occupational Risks
- EMS responder job responsibilities come with inherent risks while working and training in a variety of locations.
- Dangers may include, but are not limited to:
- Physical assault
- Vehicle crashes
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Psychological trauma
- Exposure to hazardous materials
- Exposure to extreme temperatures
- Injury from lifting and moving patients and equipment

Advanced Placement Policy
- CCFRD Training Department does not offer advanced placement into the Paramedic Program.
Experiential Credit/ Articulation Agreement
- CCFRD Training Department does not offer experiential credits.
- CCFRD has an articulation agreement with West Georgia Technical College. This agreement provides transfer credits for the graduates of the CCFRD Paramedic Program.
- Graduates must successfully complete 11 modules and receive a certificate of completion from the program. Upon successfully passing National Registry of EMT’s exam, students may be eligible for transfer credits.
- Graduates who desire to complete an Associate’s Degree at West Georgia Technical College shall complete an experiential credit form which may grant the graduates 41 credit hours in the PT13 program.
- Any additional transfer credits from other institutions will be evaluated by the college on an individual basis. West Georgia Technical College makes the final decision on transferring any credit hours.
Required Contact Hours for Program Completion
Successful completion of the program will include a minimum of the following contact hours:
- Classroom: 461 hours
- Lab: 414 hours
- Clinical/Field Experience: 300 hours
- Capstone Field Internship: 48 hours
- Total Hours: 1223 hours
