The Planning Division is responsible for maintaining and updating the County’s comprehensive plans and participating in the development of plan implementation strategies.
Implementation involves the development of ordinances or projects that can advance the goals and objectives of each plan. For instance, conservation of open space, the need for local transit resources, and a desire to have recreational trails were three concerns expressed during the County’s 2005 community visioning process.
Therefore, open space preservation and protection of tree canopy are now strong components of the county’s development ordinances, a local transit program will be underway in 2008, and grants and donation incentive programs are packaged, as available, to procure greenway right-of-way to build a countywide recreational trail system.
