About Emergency Management Agency (EMA)
Emergency Management plans and prepares for disasters and emergencies and coordinates the efforts of all emergency services during and after an emergency or disaster occurs. EMA also serves as the liaison between all local emergency services and any state or federal support services.
Emergency Management is the preparation for delivery of all emergency functions (other than those provided by military forces) to prevent, minimize, and repair injury and damage resulting from emergencies, such as:
- Energy emergencies
- Disasters
- Imminent threat thereof, of manmade or natural origin caused by:
- Enemy Attack
- Sabotage
- Civil Disturbance
- Fire
- Flood
- Earthquake
- Wind
- Storm
- Epidemic
- Air Contamination
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training
Before, during, and after disasters, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers perform basic response activities including:
- Checking in on neighbors
- Distributing information to the public
- Supporting emergency operations centers
- Helping to manage traffic and crowds.
Local CERT programs train and organize teams of volunteers to assist their families, neighbors, co-workers, and other community members during emergencies when professional responders may not be immediately available to provide assistance. CERT offers various opportunities with you in mind.

Coweta Alerts
Stay up to date on the latest Coweta County emergency alerts using our notification system - Coweta Alerts. Coweta Alerts is an effort of the Coweta County Emergency Management Agency to provide ongoing and real time information to citizens in the event of an emergency, a weather event or any occurrence where citizens need to be alerted because of an emergency or public safety issue.
Coweta County Emergency Management Agency completed the update of the 2018 Coweta County Hazard Mitigation Plan as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA requires the Hazard Mitigation Plan be updated every five (5) years. This update involved 49 people who comprised the Coweta County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Committee, which represented Coweta County, the City of Grantville, the City of Haralson, the City of Newnan, the City of Palmetto, the City of Senoia, the Town of Moreland, the Town of Sharpsburg, and the Town of Turin.
The committee also included representatives from other organizations, such as the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, the Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Cooperative, and Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Three Committee meetings were held to review the 2018 Hazard Mitigation Plan, Identify hazards facing Coweta County, perform a full risk assessment of those hazards, review previous mitigation strategies, and identify new mitigation strategies for Coweta County and all municipalities. The plan has been approved by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Below are the following entities that adopted the 2024 Coweta County Hazard Mitigation Plan:

Warning Sirens
Coweta County has 22 warning sirens across the County, along with seven (7) existing sirens in the City of Newnan, for a total of 29.
- Sirens are designed to issue tornado warnings to people outside - sounding both a siren and a verbal message urging you to seek shelter.
- They can be heard up to 1.25 miles.
- Sirens are installed near schools, parks and other locations where large groups might gather outside.
- It is crucial that citizens get weather radios and/or warning apples for their smart devices for use inside homes, business and vehicles.
- The sirens are tested the first Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. (pending weather).
