The Coweta County Board of Commissioners announces its intent to increase property taxes in 2025 in order to maintain operations and continue to provide services to our growing community. As proposed, the General Maintenance and Operations (M&O) millage rate will increase to 4.817, a 4.7% increase over the rollback rate of 4.601. This represents a 2.75% increase from the 2024 millage rate of 4.688.
Effective in tax year 2025, the Board of Commissioners created three (3) additional special service districts, including Parks & Recreation, 911, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Previously, these services were funded by user fees and the General M&O millage rate. Moving forward, a separate millage rate will be applied to each district and will no longer be included in the General M&O (as shown below):

In accordance with the voter approved floating homestead referendum (House Bill (HB) 581), the floating homestead will be applied to eligible properties and incorporated in the tax bill. As provided in HB 581, the Board of Commissioners will also consider a referendum for a new 1% local option sales tax called FLOST (Floating Local Option Sales Tax) used exclusively to offset property taxes. If approved, this will be on the November ballot.
The Board of Commissioners will consider adopting the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget on August 5, 2025. The millage rate required to support the proposed budget is higher than the rollback millage rate. Therefore, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase. All concerned citizens are invited to attend the public hearings on this tax increase which will be held:
- August 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
- August 19, 2025, at 7:30 a.m.
- August 19, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
All three (3) public hearings will take place in the Commission Chambers at 37 Perry Street Newnan, Georgia. The millage rate adoption is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
The millage rates proposed by the Coweta County Board of Commissioners do not include other levies set by governing authorities for municipalities and the Coweta County Board of Education.
