Coweta County Animal Services Dog Kennels Closed
On Thursday, November the 14th a puppy was brought to the shelter as a stray by the Newnan Animal Warden and at the time appeared to be healthy.
An initial exam completed on the 15th was normal.
The puppy was adopted on Friday, November 22nd and at that time showed a light positive for parvo.
Because of that, the puppy was kept overnight in the medical section where a third test showed a darker positive. It was transported to a local vet’s office to begin treatment.
Following that treatment, the puppy was returned to the shelter and was kept under observation until returned to its adopter.
The shelter was placed under quarantine on Saturday, Nov. 23rd and will remain under quarantine until Dec. 10th at which time if no other dogs break with the parvo virus it will be re-opened.
The dog area is under quarantine. The cat area remains open.
Coweta County notified the Georgia Department of Agriculture on Monday, November 25th as required by law.
Coweta County will announce the status of the dog area on December 10th.
