The Coweta County's Georgraphic Information System was created in 2008, and is a division of the Department of Information Technology. A GIS is a computer system for the input, editing, storage, maintenance, management, retrieval, analysis, and output of geographically referenced information. GIS can be used to perform many different types of geographic analysis. Simple geographic analysis includes determining where things are, what is near them, and what sorts of database information is associated with them. GIS can also do complex geographic analysis, including modeling and forecasting.
The GIS division assists in the creation, maintenance, and analysis of Coweta County’s spatial data and is responsible for the successful implementation of GIS technology throughout the County Departments. Some of the responsibilities include:
*The development of computer applications that will provide quick and easy access to GIS functions.
*The development and assistance in development of high quality map products including planimetric, topographic, thematic, and custom maps.
*The development and assistance in development of new geographic data sets.
*Specific spatial data analysis projects.
*Cross departmental database integration.
*User training and support.
