Two amendments have been added to the minimum codes for Coweta County - one to the National Electric Code and the second to the SBCCI and CABOregarding spacing of framing members.

The Addenda to the National Electric Code States:

No aluminum conductorsshall be used other than the service entrance cable.  Exception: On high amperage heat pump or electrical furnace with separate disconnects, aluminum conductor type  SEU or SER, may be installed from the service panel to a disconnect marked CO/ALR on line side.  Load side wiring from disconnect to furnace and/or heat pump shall be in copper only.

The Framing Addendum states:

Center framing greater than sixteen inches shall not be allowed in Coweta County including interior walls.

Exception: Engineered factory built roof trusses.

Exception No. 2: Engineered factory built floor trusses shall be spaced per manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Exception No. 3: Any building or structure, except dwellings and dwelling units as defined in the Coweta County Zoning Ordinance, whose plans and specifications have been prepared under the direct supervision or review of and bear the seal of a registered professional engineer. Said plans and specifications shall meet all state and local codes.

Exception No. 4: Detached accessory buildings located in single-family zoning districts.

Exception No. 5: Metal framed dwellings and dwelling units as defined in the Coweta County Zoning Ordinance, whose plans and specifications have been prepared under the direct supervision or review of and bear the seal of a registered professional engineer. Said plans and specifications shall meet all state and local codes.

Exception No. 6: Log dwellings, as defined in the Coweta County Zoning Ordinance, whose plans and specifications have been prepared under the direct supervision or review of and bear the seal of a State of Georgia registered professional engineer.

Exception No. 7: Twenty four inch on center framing shall be allowed for interior nonload-bearing walls in basements and interior first and second floor nonload-bearing walls.

Exception No. 8: Dwellings constructed of structural insulated panels whose plans and specifications have been prepared under the direct supervision or review of and bear the seal of a State of Georgia registered professional engineer. Also, all structural insulated panel construction must be inspected by a State of Georgia registered professional engineer.
