
Sheriff Mike Yeager is a lifelong resident of Coweta County, living in the Moreland Community. He is married to Beverly Yeager, Principal of Moreland Elementary School, and they have two children: Kirby and Weston. They are members of the Moreland United Methodist Church.
Sheriff Yeager graduated from Newnan High School and studied criminal justice at West Georgia College and Brenau College. He is a graduate of the Clayton Regional Law Enforcement Academy and the Georgia Police Academy. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Law Enforcement Executive Development Program, the National Sheriff's Institute, and the United States Secret Service DPS School.
Sheriff Yeager began his law enforcement career in 1980 as a patrolman with the Newnan Police Department, served as a Probation Officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections, and served as the captain of Coweta County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations. He is a state certified law enforcement instructor.
Sheriff Yeager was first elected Coweta County's Sheriff in 1993. He is currently serving his fifth term.
Professionally, Sheriff Yeager is the current Chairman of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (which regulates all Georgia law enforcement officers). He is past President of the Georgia Sheriff's Association and of the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes Executive Board. In 2006, Sheriff Yeager received the Georgia Sheriff of the Year award and the Governor's Public Safety Award for Outstanding Contribution to Profession. In 1996, he was one of eleven senior law enforcement officers from Georgia selected to participate in a Law Enforcement Exchange Program to Israel.
Sheriff Yeager is active in the community, serving as past President of the Newnan Kiwanis Club and past Director of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. He is the Assistant Scoutmaster of Troup 48 of the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and active in Youth Sports Programs.
