Coweta Receives $300,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant

Post Date:12/27/2007

Coweta County has been selected to receive a $300,000 Grant for construction of Phase I of the Brown's Mill Battlefield Park.  Phase I will include a mulched interpretative trail along historic Ricketyback Road, a cobblestone plaza, pavilion, and restrooms.  The dollars will be made available in FY08 & FY 09 and will be matched by local funds.

The Transportation Enhancement (TE) program is federally funded and was originally established in 1991 by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act.  The Georgia Department of Transportation Planning Office manages the TE program in Georgia.

The Brown's Mill Battlefield is owned by Coweta County and was the site of the historic Civil War Battle.  This battle was won by the Confederacy, but is more significant because it caused Union General William Sherman to change his strategy, resulting in the ultimate success of the North.
