It may be under the shade of razor wire, but the garden at the Coweta County Prison has had a great summer, and now the fall garden is being planted.

The garden supplements the kitchen that supplies meals to the inmates and the summer harvest had impressive numbers:

• Tomatoes: 1,361 lbs.
• Corn: 775 lbs. or approximately 985 ears
• Cucumbers: 240 lbs.
• Peppers of all kinds: 244 lbs.
• Eggplant: 42 lbs.

And 2017 was a great year for cantaloupes with the largest weighing in at 21 lbs. and watermelons with the largest weighing 62 lbs.

Fall crops including cabbage, collards, turnip greens and mustard greens are now being planted, but the fruits of summer are still bearing.
