 Position Reports to Coweta County Development Authority
FSLA Status: Exempt

 General Definition of Work
 Performs complex professional and administrative work planning, developing, initiating and directing business and industrial development programs and services, assisting existing and potential businesses and industries, overseeing the preparation and maintenance of promotional materials, files and records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the County Development Authority. Departmental supervision is exercised over all personnel within the department.

Essential Functions
Assists new businesses in the formative and start-up stages; assists existing businesses in development and expansion; provides support in network applications for new and existing businesses.
Initiates, develops and maintains programs to encourage business and industry to locate and retain their location in the County; recommends targeted industries to County management and officials; plans and conducts recruiting trips outside the County; attends trade shows and related events.
Identifies and defines the goals and objectives for county-wide economic development; communicates objectives and accomplishments.
Directs, supervises, and manages assigned staff and the administrative management of the County's Economic Development Authority (CCDA); provides leadership and direction for the CCDA.
Assists in the recruitment and selection of department personnel; assigns, directs and inspects the work of and supervises and evaluates assigned personnel; recommends suspensions and terminations.
Leads and participates in regional economic development organizations and events; attends meetings and conferences of various organizations and informs the County Administrator and Commissioners of issues and opportunities involving the organization.
Develops and implements an annual work plan and budget.
Assists in evaluating prospective grant-eligible projects; completing grant applications; scheduling public hearings; coordinating grant efforts with project developers; providing progress reports on projects and completion status to various boards and commissions.
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of economic development; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration; ability to attract industry and business for the community; ability to prepare clear and comprehensive financial, administrative and industrial reports; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, associates and the general public.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in economic development, business administration, or related field and extensive experience in economic development activities and marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements
Completion of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Basic Economic Development Course within one year.
Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
